Hatta has a reputation within the United Arab Emirates as being a perfect place to go to cool off during the baking summer months. Perched slap bang in middle of the Hajar mountains, Hatta is about a one hour drive south-east from Dubai and a few degrees cooler.
The only place to stay in Hatta, and that's no bad thing, is the Hatta Fort Hotel. You can't miss it ... driving instructions consist of (1) drive to Hatta, (2) turn left at the big sandcastle in the middle of a roundabout, (3) you're there!
We made three visits to Hatta, taking both sets of parents. In summary, they loved it, as we did on our first visit. There is enough sightseeing to fill a relaxed weekend and I'll let the pictures below tell that story. A final hats off to the Hatta Fort Hotel though. The service is excellent, the atmosphere chilled out, food/drinks excellent plus good value, no petty lifeguarding (like at Al Aqah), and you'll come away from the place feeling relaxed and happy about finding a wee treasure hidden in the mountains.
