We spent a day in Hobart following the completion of the Overland Track. Luckily for us it was a Saturday so the popular Salamanca Market was trading. With glorious sunshine and a hankering for big breakfasts and afternoon beers, we hit the city centre to see what was on offer.
Most of the city seemed to be visiting the market, and it's easy to see why as there's a lot of quirky stuff on offer and a very nice setting. It is probably one of the nicest markets we have visited. Once you've nosed around a few hundred market stalls, the feet get weary and a demon thirst develops. Fortunately, the market streets are graced with a number of Irish Pubs which are hard to resist when you're on holiday.
Steve and Clint, our buddies from the Overland Track, joined us a bit later on to swine through some more beer, after which everything went a bit messy and before we knew it we were agreeing to an Indian set meal for five and it was a miracle we got home in one piece.
Thumbs up to Hobart, big time. The relaxed pace of life there and the pretty marina setting lends itself to perfect holiday-making material.
